Section 7(6) - Application Requirements - Joburg Council

Documentation necessary to consider a request for provisional approval in terms of Section 7(6) of the NBR and Building Standards Act 103 of 1977:


1. Proof that building plans have submitted to Council

2. One Coloured copy building plans indicating all proposed work

3. Copy of Approved Site Development Plan

4. Proof that All contributions have been paid

(OR Section 82 Certificate for Township)

5. Copy of Title Deeds

6. Proof that Townplanning Rights are in place

7. Written Application for 7(6) provisional approval

Application to be accompanied by Motivational Letter (see Application form)

8. Copy of Approved S.G. Diagram

Requirements to obtain Occupation Certificate from Local Authority:


1. Approved Buildings Plans / Approved As-Built Plans (such to have been circulated by council to relevant Building Inspector)

2. Structural Engineers' Certificate (on relevant authorities' specific form)

3. Plumbing Certificate (by plumber on relevant authorities' specific form)

4. Glazing Certificate from Window-Subcontractor (specifying compliance with NBR and marking of glass)

5. COC - Certificate of Compliance - issued by Electrician and Certified by Electrical Eng.

6. Roof Structure Certificate (such as a Nutec Engineering Design Certificate for Timber trusses)

7. Certification of Mechanical Ventilation System by Mech. Engineer / Desing-and-supply Sub-Contractor

8. Fire Clearance Certificate - for shell / for tenant

9. Satisfied Building Inspector at final inspection.

Ensure that you obtain a SINGLE list of items the Building Inspector want remedied for issuing of certificate.
